We decided to write about “What to Wear for your Family Photo Shoot” because this sessions are one of the most fun things we do here at BoudoiGraphy. We take pride in being able to capture each little or big personality within the family structure. What makes it one of our favourite things, is that all families are unique and this enables us to capture what makes them different.
Let’s take a look at what you can wear for your family shoot with Jose Soriano from BoudoiGraphy:
1. Outdoor Activities
Some families love the outdoors, and practicing a hobby or activity that you engage in regularly as a family will bring across this comfort as well. Think in the lines of ice hockey, skiing, hiking, fishing etc. Your clothes will then depend on the activity practiced.
2. Kitchen Chores
A fun way to create an engaging family photo shoot is to put the entire family in one space. The kitchen, for instance, is a great setting and each family member’s tasks or habits in the kitchen can be portrayed. For instance Mom and Dad can wear aprons while cooking, while some of the kids can be in sports or recreational clothes busy with homework with the little ones already in pajamas.
3. Mix and Match
Some families don’t enjoy looking too much alike. For this, you can choose one or two colours that everybody likes and have some of the family members wear one colour and the other colour for the rest. This will still help the family appear as a unit while staying true to their individual natures.
4. Seasonal Shoot
Another easy and creative way to decide on what to wear for a family shoot, is dressing according to season. Choose the season during which the shoot is taking place and go a bit over the top with props and accessories.
5. Keep things monochrome
Not all families have the same type of clothes in exactly the same colours. Opting for monochrome wear will allow you to mix and match clothes within the same hue of colours.
6. Pick a Dress up Team
Maybe your entire family are Star Wars fanatics or loving watching a series together. Dress up as the characters of your favourite shows. The shoot can even mimic the series as a whole.
7. Black and White
Wearing black and white for a family shoot has always been a go-to options. Most family members will own either black or white clothing that can be paired with jeans or neutral pants and skirts.
8. Holiday Themed
Wearing holiday themed clothing can give your family photo shoot a multi-purpose. Apart from just capturing your lovely family, these images can be used as Christmas cards to be sent to the rest of the family. Nothing cuter than little Christmas hats and mistletoes to get everyone in the spirit.
9. Going Old School
With your family photo shoot we are capturing a moment in time. Why not use a theme set in the past for some added edge. Think back on the old school family portraits and hire vintage clothings to mimic a different era.
10. Getting Schooled
Another creative idea for an original shoot is the ‘back to school’ theme. It’s relatively easy to pull off since your kids already own their school uniform and you and your partner can just spice up your work clothes to look like a teacher or the principal.
These are just a few fun ideas for what to wear during your family shoot. If you want to see what some of our other family clients have done, feel free to contact us. Since this is a group project, we would love to help you brain storm and finding something that would suit you and your family.
